Old Facelift: In 1978, Dr. Dedo published an article on the classification of the neck. From his basic anatomy research, he formulated a classification of the neck that would allow the facial plastic surgeon to tailor the facelift operation to the specific needs and pathology of the patient. Just as one would not perform the same rhinoplasty on every nose, similarly one would not perform the same facelift operation on every patient. Because of this work, Dr. Dedo has been invited to participate in and write articles in numerous authoritative textbooks over the years.
The facelift operation is one in which an incision is made in front of and behind the ear. It allows the surgeon to lift the skin and the deep structures of the face thereby giving a multilayered lift that will withstand the test of time.
The 635 Facelift: Dr. Dedo has developed thee 635 Facelift which is an operation in which the patient has recovered in 6 days with the sutures being removed and make-up applied. It addresses the three areas of the face: the cheek, jowls and neck and requires 5 laser treatments. It is a total program that involves nutrition and supplements for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery. The vitamins prescribed by Dr. Dedo promote healing, reduce bruising, improves scarring and reduces pain. In general, the patients are literally able to recover in 6 days.
In addition to the vitamins and the low level laser light that promotes healing, Dr. Dedo uses platelet gel. He was the first one to use platelet gel in Florida and now will not do a facelift without it. Platelet gel is a "glue" made from the patient's own blood. By isolating the platelets in the platelet rich plasma, the healing growth factor is isolating that literally cuts the healing time in half. It also reduces bruising and swelling. When you reduce swelling, you reduce pain. When you reduce bruising, you facilitate the healing process. Because of the platelet gel and low level laser light, Dr. Dedo no longer has to use drains. The dressing comes off in 24 hours and the patient is able to wash their hair.
What about the nonsurgical facelift?
In the present technology, there is nothing that gives a predictable lift and result like the actual surgical facelift. Radiofrequency treatment of the skin, laser treatment of the skin and everything in between has been touted over the past 3 years to offer a "lunchtime" band-aid facelift with no downtime. Unfortunately, the only present day solution is surgery.
